Goals & Objectives
of the Stinson Memorial Library District
Goal I. To improve public understanding of the library as both an information
and a cultural, artistic and architectural resource.
1. To provide periodic lectures to community groups about information services.
2. To increase the library's promotional efforts that focus on the role of the
library as
an information agency by 15 percent a year for 5 years.
3. To encourage artists, both local and non-local to perform, exhibit, instruct,
interact
and participate in library programming through grants, endowments, bequests or
matching funds.
Goal II. To improve information services to the personal, noncurricular
education, and
job-related needs and interests of current library users and future library
users.
1. To raise basic telephone reference service to the same level of reference
service in the
building.
2. To maintain or increase the percent of materials budget spent on the
reference collection.
3. To provide training of information systems to staff in order to improve
knowledge of
community, user interaction, information technology, and instructional
technique.
4. To develop and use methods for regular analysis of user information needs for
the
development of new collections and information service.
5. To provide a file of local organizations, businesses, artists, craftsmen and
entertainers
and their information needs by the year 2000.
6. To expand the collection of local historical materials and to provide easier
access to
these materials.
Goal III. To improve understanding and awareness of new information technology.
1. To provide printed and/or AV instructional materials about new technology in
the
library.
2. To increase microcomputers and compatible software in each branch on a
continual
basis.
3. To provide public internet access on a continual basis.
